Wargaming and Popeye the Sailor Team Up for a Special Collaboration for World Oceans Month
Wargaming, creator of the popular naval multiplayer game World of Warships, has announced a special collaboration with the iconic pop culture character, Popeye the Sailor, to celebrate World Oceans Month. The collaboration will include a soon-to-be-announced charity and a special in-game pack with exclusive characters and items. World Oceans Month, which is celebrated in June, seeks to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the largest ecosystem on our planet.
The Popeye Benefit Pack will include Commanders Popeye and Brutus, as well as custom voiceovers, two flags and an exclusive camouflage for the USS Colorado level VII.
Popeye comes to World of Warships
Popeye, the iconic spinach-eating sailor and advocate for clean oceans, is owned by King Features Syndicatea unit of Hearst Newspapers and home to some of the world’s most popular entertainment personalities. A longtime advocate for ocean conservation, in 2020 Popeye announced his portrayal of The Sea Cleaners, an organization that focuses on the long-term, global preservation of the oceans, by joining their fight against plastic pollution and raising awareness of their ocean conservation efforts. This collaboration with Wargaming continues Popeye’s commitment to sustainability and ocean conservation.
”Popeye the Sailor is a favorite childhood character for many of us in Wargaming, so to have the opportunity to bring him to our waters is an honor. It is even more special to know that we are contributing to raising awareness about the preservation of the oceans, while bringing joy to our players.”, commented Marko Valentic, Global Director of Business Development and Communications at Wargaming.
“Popeye is one of the best-known sailors in pop culture and we can’t think of a better gaming partner than World of Warships” said Jarred Goro, vice president of North American licensing for King Features. “We’re thrilled that World of Warships’ passion for ocean conversations matches our own, and we’re looking forward to bringing this in-game collaboration to fans around the world.”
